How to Start Selling Private Label Products on Amazon or Shopify
If one thing is true, it’s that Amazon continues to expand. And in doing so, you can grow and expand your own business by selling your private label products on Amazon, Shopify, or any other eCommerce platform out there.
What Are Private Label Products?
Let’s start by defining what a private label product is. The idea is simple: you purchase generic products that are already selling well and then remarket them under your very own logo, design, and packaging. If you think about it, it’s a foolproof strategy to make money. Which is why many people have adopted the idea and made it their very own.
But be mindful: you won’t get rich overnight. What you can do is develop a strategy to begin selling your private label products on Amazon or Shopify and grow your business over time.
How To Sell Private Label Products On Amazon or Shopify
1. Pick Your Product
The most important part behind selling private label products is discovering which product you’re going to sell. Research and study the products that work well on Amazon and land on the one you want to source. As a few tips, try to make sure the product size will fit inside a shoebox, try to keep its weight as low as possible, and try to find something likable and generic (phone chargers and cases are a popular choice for a reason!).
2. Find Your Supplier
After you know what product you want to sell, it’s time to find your supplier. And although you may be able to source the product locally, it’s often cheaper to source internationally. More specifically, from China. The key to discovering the best supplier is keeping in mind the minimum order size, the cost of the goods, the order lead time, and the private label policy. 2. Design Your Brand
While some people like to design their brand and logo after finding a supplier, you can start this step ahead of time and have everything ready! Design it yourself, hire a freelance designer, or get a design agency to plan all your branding and packaging. That way you can have the files ready to send before sending them to your supplier.
3. Prepare Your Amazon/Shopify Listing
While you wait for your supplier to fulfill the order, begin crafting your Amazon (or Shopify) listing. The key to an amazing product listing is originality, so be sure to create compelling, educational, and different listings from your competitors. While you’re at it, it’s also a good idea to register and protect your brand on Amazon Brand Registry.
4. Review Your Product Samples
This is one of our 5 tips when sourcing from China. Be sure to review your product samples and the overall order quality - preferably before they leave the Chinese factory! If you can’t do this physically, we’ve made it very easy for you. We can work as your local office in China and ensure that the products you bought are the products you get.
5. Start Selling!
If you’re selling your private label products on Amazon, we recommend taking advantage of FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon). All you have to do here is store your products in an Amazon fulfillment and let the giant eCommerce complete the order fulfillment process on your behalf. It takes a small piece of your profits, but it takes a gigantic amount of work out of your hands (as well as providing Prime benefits to your customers). You can boost traffic to your product pages through social media, email marketing, or ad campaigns.
